Maxit Brings Light Relief From Airborne Nasties

A BRAND new high-tech interior wall and ceiling finish has been introduced into the UK by maxit Building Products Ltd, with amazing properties that enable it to actually eliminate pollutants and airborne odours from the room - simply by reacting with natural or artificial daylight.

Based on photocatalytic technology, maxit airfresh reduces volatile organic compounds, airborne pollutants and odours, converting them into harmless components and substantially improving air quality, promoting good health.

The magical super-plaster will be aimed at any building where odours can build up: hotels, hospitals, conference rooms, rental accommodation, bars and restaurants, sports changing rooms and private homes.

Neil O'Mara, maxit UK product manager for wall coatings, is in charge of the UK launch of airfresh. He is extremely excited about this new product, as he explains: "When our inventors in Germany hosted a demonstration to building specifiers and important guests from various industries, the results caused quite some amazement.

"maxit mocked up two identical hotel rooms, one with an airfresh wall covering, and one with a standard plaster. Both rooms were then treated to an identical amount of cigarette smoke and other everyday odours such as strong-smelling food, and within minutes all those present at the experiment agreed that the difference was obvious, with the airfresh room feeling and smelling noticeably fresher."

airfresh is currently available as a white plaster in two finishes - stippled or rilled - which is as suitable for ceilings as it is for walls. It cannot be coated with conventional paint, as this would reduce its effectiveness, but maxit's research and development teams have developed a special airfresh paint, which is available in 99 colours.

Based on gypsum, airfresh is not harmful and can be applied safely and easily to most internal walls. Its air purification properties will not deteriorate with age, and it will be more effective as it is exposed to better quality light.

airfresh will be available through quality building suppliers nationwide and estimated ‘on-the-wall’ costs are £18 – £20 per m².
