Paradise Street

The versatility of maxit LWA geotechnical fill knows no bounds, as demonstrated by its latest use for one of the UK's most exciting retail developments.

Landscape contractors for the Euro 1.4billion Grosvenor Paradise Project - one of the largest projects of its type seen in the UK for many  years - are using substantial quantities of bulk LWA to form a unique roof garden!

The four-year build programme covering 17 Hectares will include a retail development on the site of former parkland.  But by working to a unique design the major part of the development will be below ground level and the land above will be "greened" once more.

In order to limit the loading on the new structure to the minimum and provide a free-draining sub-base, maxit geotechnical fill is being used as the base for new landscaping by Willerby, the landscaping company working on behalf of main contractor Laing O'Rourke. So far, more than 1,100m³ of LWA 10-20mm grade has been used in the formation of the new landscape and a total of 9,500m³  will be used by the time the work is completed this year.

The first phase of the Paradise Project is due to be completed this year in time for the city of Liverpool's 800th anniversary celebrations and the main project will be finished early in 2008 when the city will have its year in the limelight as the European Capital of Culture.  The whole area will have 46 individually designed buildings with some 200,000m² of shopping, including some of the major names in the UK.
